Marc Schenker es nativo de California y vive entre el norte de California y Tepoztlán. Desde muy temprano en su vida, Marc ha sido un fotógrafo aficionado y sus imágenes se han centrado fundamentalmente en la gente alrededor del mundo. Sus exhibiciones han incluido fotografías de Cuba, Argentina, México y personas en el Ganges, así como trabajadores agrícolas en diferentes regiones del mundo. En la última década, Marc ha enfocado su trabajo fotográfico en México. Este esfuerzo se plasmó en una exhibición en el Consulado de México en Sacramento titulada Magical Mexico / México Mágico en el año 2013. El libro que lo acompaña, “México Mágico: Gente, Tradición y Color” reúne imágenes de personas de múltiples regiones de México. Su trabajo más reciente “Los Murales de Tepoztlán» representa una nueva visión de su fotografía con un enfoque en el arte público. Surgió por su fascinación con la gran tradición del muralismo mexicano del siglo XX y la manifestación actual de esta tradición en su amado Pueblo Mágico, Tepoztlán. Mientras caminaba por las calles de su lugar adoptivo, Tepoztlán, fue sorprendido por la belleza, la diversidad y sobre todo, el intercambio público de los murales que tanto abundan en este hermoso pueblo. El libro «Los Murales de Tepoztlán» aspira devolver parte de ese generoso espíritu al arte público. Es un tributo a la gente de Tepoztlán, y el autor espera que con ello se continúe con esa tradición de dar al llevar la historia y la belleza de los murales de Tepoztlán a un público más amplio.
Marc Schenker is a California native who lives in Northern California and Tepoztlan, Mexico. He is a lifelong photographer and his photography has focused on global travel with a particular attention to people of the world. His photographic exhibits have included images of Cuba, Argentina, and people of the Ganges as well as farmworkers around the world. In the past decade he has directed more of his camera focus on Mexico. This effort was brought together in 2013 in an exhibit at the Mexican Consulate in Sacramento entitled Magical Mexico/ México Mágico. The accompanying book, Magical Mexico: People, Tradition and Color, brings together photographs of people from multiple regions in Mexico. The Murals of Tepoztlan represents a departure for his photography in its focus on public art. It arose from a fascination with the great 20th century tradition of Mexican muralism and the current manifestation of that tradition in his beloved Pueblo Mágico, Tepoztlan. As he walked the streets of his adopted town of Tepoztlan he was struck by the beauty, diversity and most of all the public sharing of the murals that are so plentiful in the town. This book “Murals of Tepoztlan” is an effort to return some of that generous spirit of public art. The book is a gift to the people of Tepoztlan, and it is hoped that it will continue the tradition of giving by bringing the story and beauty of Tepoztlan murals to a wider audience.
